I saw this on some forums on a server I used to staff for, and this is all very true so I thought I'd share it with you guys that are thinking of applying for helper.

During my short time here we've had a lot of Mod applications. Some of them great, some of them good, some of them so-so and some horrible ones. We've accepted some people that had average applications, while rejecting some great ones, because being a mod is not only about writing well. It is not about meeting the simple requirements that we've put on the application page. Hell, it's not even about being friendly to other staff. Being a mod on this kind of server and game is about who YOU are, as a player, and as a person. It is about dedication to helping others, to making sure the server runs smoothly, and remains fun for everyone. It is not all fun and games among staff and players. You need to dedicate time (a lot of it) to others, and you can't expect a lot of gratitude: this is what YOU asked for. YOU will need a lot of self control to be staff; we have to deal with annoying twerps each and every day, and we do not just rudely blow them away, no matter how much we would like to, because this would make the whole server look bad, this would mean that we aren't able to deal with players in a mature way, and it would just degrade the ranks of staff to behave like random doofus.

What I want to say here is that in order to be accepted as staff, you need to be staff material. To prove it, you need to be mature, not only to look like you can be. Not being mature is not a big deal in your everyday life, but it is if you want to have responsibilities. Accepting a rejection is part of being mature. Overcoming disappointment and going through some introspection process is a great way, if not the only one, to grow up.

So please, if you want to be one of us, first ask yourself: do I get angry easily? Is disappointment something that brings me down immediately? Do I want to be the server star? Do I enjoy playing more than helping? Do I let personal issues overcome reasonable thinking?
If you answered "Yes" to any of those, you might want to reconsider applying. You will still be a part of the community: after all, we wouldn't have any purpose on here without the masses of players that populate this great server!
